ID Cards Anyone?
Short but sweet, people need to keep better track of their ID cards.
I'm more concerned for the people who come back late at night and expect us to answer them when they're knocking. We won't always be there in time, and it's getting very cold nowadays...
I know I'm guilty of it once and a while, but now that I think about it... just because I'm lazy doesn't give me the right to interrupt someone else so I don't have to get out my card.
Its really REALLY annoying when the same 4-5 people knock EVERY SINGLE TIME when you know they have their IDs and are too lazy (as said above) to get them. It is insane how many people forget their IDs. Also, getting calls at 2am to go open the door! Call me crazy but i have an 8 am class and really don't want to stumble blindly out of my loft bed, and Run to whichever door they are at, go back and take another hour falling back asleep. Call me lazy, but said person could just save me (and im sure other people too) the toruble and just carry their card with them.
During the day, knockers inturrupt people's conversations, homework, sleep, and concentration.
People forget stuff. It happens to us all. No biggie. But when you are 'that person' who forgets your ID, or just doesn't bother, no one wants to let you in. When you knock, you are inturrupting someone who is probably doing something other than just waiting to let you in. "I don't have pockets"- Get some pockets, or keep it in your hand, or in your bag, or on a lanyard. "I don't want to dig around my bag for it"-Find a small pocket to keep it in, or a wallet or something. Everyone else does it so why can't you? "You only have to walk a few steps to answer the door"-The walking isn't the problem, it's the cutting off conversations, losing track during homework, forgetting your page in a book. It is inconvenient to people in the common room to put down everything they are doing to come get you.
We all understand that sometimes people forget. It happens. But don't MAKE it happen. Be responsible and carry your ID just like the majority of us.
Maybe we should just let this slide for a little while.. people are getting really upset about this argument and at this point its just become person bashing rather than a calm discussion. i have noticed people getting ganged up on about this and that is not what our community is about. so lets just give it a rest for a while.
I see what you are saying, but on the other hand you can't stop having your problem. I think for now I will just not open the door... I hate to say it that way, but that is one way to get a point across without being aggressive about it.
If you have a problem with my decision use your ID or wait for someone else. You see, the nice thing about being serious about making the point (not having or being in the habit of using your ID can have serious repercussions) is that I won't be phased by getting shit from people while doing so. So go ahead, give me shit, but I'll just smile and nod. I'm totally within my right.
I did not at all mean that I personally will give you shit, because i won't at all. im just warning you, because as im sure you noticed there are a few people in our building that like to dish it out. good luck with your plan :) props for having the balls to do it and stand up to the angry people here
Sometimes it is just easier to knock rather than to dig around for 5 minutes to get it out of your bag
