I pose to my fellow Eatonians a question.
Which is more important, your anonymity or the discussion at hand?
Now, ponder this my comrades in life and ambition. What will you do when making a decision requires your voice yet you feel unwilling to compromise your anonymity?
This is the premise of Eaton Speaks. We should all be heard, so I ask you to give your opinions here anonymously or otherwise so that YOU feel safe and comfortable.
I'm sure you understand that while I have control over comments that I will stay my hand unless you become obscene or hurtful to others or yourself.

P.S.
'L' is my pen name and does not indicate the name of anyone in the hall.
Well, I'm guessing this is where we put our responses, so I'll start:
ReplyDeleteEaton is a wonderfully accepting community, and I feel the atmosphere here is very social and most definitely fun. Considering how friendly and welcoming everyone is, I'm a bit concerned by the rift being created based on gender-neutral bathrooms.
Here's my two cents: Eaton is a community of people who get along. It's probably one of the most social dorms (and definitely minis) out there. Having bathrooms that are segregated based on gender, then, feels awkward in Eaton because of how inclusive and friendly we are. There are already a couple of bathrooms that are basically one-person, so it's basically just you in there when you go to them. I don't see the need to designate our bigger bathrooms as "gender segregated," since there are already options for privacy.
I think we, as a community, should push for Carla to remove the gender designations, and then also request that the smaller bathrooms have locks on them. That way, privacy is guaranteed for everyone who goes in them. I believe the change to locks would benefit everyone, not just people on either side.

P.S. By the way, L, have you caught Kira yet? :P (shameless Death Note reference)
Dude. Can we run rampantly wild in this thread, or will you post topics?
ReplyDeleteOkay so this is just a test thread. I'll be working with the Hall Council reps to create issue posts so we can keep this organized. I should have the first one or two up by Tuesday or Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteThank for the support and don't forget every day this week 8:00pm-9:00pm there will be instructional video footage of how to use the blog in the upstairs lounge on loop so that you can learn how to post basic Anonymous comments. I leave the rest in your hands. I will merely organize, it is up to all of us to make sure that the discussions are fair and everyone is heard.
I approve of this method of communication!
